What is Parkinson's Exercise LSVT BIG?

LSVT BIG is a program designed specifically for those with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and encourages using your body to it’s full potential.

One feature of PD is a smallness and slowness of movement. Meaning that a movement that may feel normal is in fact much smaller and/or slower. This can affect everyday tasks such as walking, handwriting, getting dressed (such as buttons and zips) and getting up and down off chairs. LSVT BIG challenges this by encouraging participants to THINK BIG!

LSVT BIG is a one-on-one intensive program of 1-hour sessions, 4 times a week for 4 weeks. There is also a home exercise program of LSVT exercises to be performed daily.

The exercises in LSVT BIG use the whole body and encourage large movements of your arms, legs and trunk, the program doesnt just teach you how to but when to put more energy into what exercises. These exercises can be modified and adjusted to suit your function, capacity and specific needs and goals.
